Weekend Warriors!

What a whirlwind of a weekend with not much downtime. Saw a wonderful performance by Andrew Bird at the Hawaii Theatre, went to the Sony Open with my PR friend and sipped on Grey Goose sodas in the Grey Goose skybox, spent time with friends visiting from San Diego, went to Chinese New Year in Honolulu, hiked in Lanikai and went to clubs till the wee hours of the night.

What is “organic cotton?”
Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. In addition, federal regulations prohibit the use of genetically engineered seed for organic farming. All cotton sold as organic in the United States must meet strict federal regulations covering how the cotton is grown.

How much organic cotton is grown globally?
According to the fourth annual Organic Exchange Farm and Fiber Report 2009, organic cotton production grew an impressive 20 percent over 2007/08 to 175,113 metric tons (802,599 bales) grown on 625,000 acres (253,000 hectares). Organic cotton now represents 0.76 percent of global cotton production.

Mahalo to Tina at Therapy Boutique for introducing me to Nick from TV’s Love Games on Oxygen. He’s a fan of Organik and rocking the eco-friendly and sustainable shirts on Love Games reality show. Yuriko, our Japan agent, visited her home country and exhibited Organik at Interstyle in September. She met some Japan superstars and radio personalities including musician John Cruz. Yuriko found press with Mie Saito from Yokohama 84.7 station wearing the Organik swallowtail design on our bamboo designer t-shirt. Look for Organik on the shelves of select boutiques in Japan with more Organik hitting the stores in early 2012.

KONA SURF FILM FESTIVAL

This weekend marks the eighth annual Kona Surf Film Festival. Chad Campbell, surf filmmaker and event founder, has been inspiring the local community to create works of art and present it in front of a large audience. This is the second year the event is held at the classy Mauna Lani Bay Hotel with art installations, live music, surf films and vendors. Check out the movie lineup and activites at the official website. Organik merchandise will be on sale for your holiday shopping needs. We’re also stoked to introduce the second round of FBI X Organik collabo mens and womens t-shirts with sustainable bamboo and shirts made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles for that eco-friendliness.
